Not only does Southport have 22 miles of coast but also boasts the Grade II listed Southport Pier, the oldest iron pier in the country, standing for over 150 years. The four-star rated pier has been described by one reviewer on Trip Advisor as ‘A great place to blow the cobwebs away’.
A walk to the end of Southport Pier will give you views across the Northwest and on a clear day you can see neighbouring Blackpool and even the North Wales coast.

The Atkinson is a unique venue that incorporates a museum, performing arts centre and historical building all in one. The museum houses an impressive collection of historical artefacts that date back 10,000 years, including some from Ancient Egypt. All the Family will be amazed by the displays and there is also a performing arts centre that hosts regular events and shows. Learn about history or watch a live performance, the Atkinson is definitely worth a visit.

For those who enjoy watching miniature townsfolk going about their busy lives, a visit to the model railway village in Southport is a must. The village is approximately scale of 1:18, and it’s located near the Marine Lake. It’s a great place to relax and watch the trains chugging around the tracks, and it’s also a lot of fun for kids (and adults) to explore. If you’re looking for a fun and relaxing activity, the model railway village is definitely worth a visit.

The Botanic Gardens in Southport are a stunning display of colourful flowers, winding paths and vibrant plants. Situated in the heart of the city, the gardens are a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. Visitors can explore the different gardens, including the Japanese Garden, the Rose Garden and the Native Garden. There is also a café on site, making it the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon. The Botanic Gardens in Southport is well worth a visit.

These spectacular sculptures by Angel of the North artist Antony Gormley are on Crosby Beach. Another Place consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. The artwork has been brought to the area by South Sefton Development Trust with funding from the Mersey Waterfront programme and the Arts Council.

The Pinewoods are home to one of the best-known locations for the Red Squirrels in England. It is owned and managed by the National Trust and they work day and night to protect the 200 Red Squirrels that live in the area. It is on a wonderful stretch of unspoilt coastline set between the sea and Formby Village, offering miles of walks through the woods and dunes. Formby Beach is ideal for families, with a large car park, picnic areas and waymarked paths to the beach, dunes, and woods.

King’s Gardens is an historic and beautiful park located on Southport’s stunning Promenade. Recently, it has been restored to its former glory through a £5million restoration project. The park improvements included historic features and buildings being restored, extensive landscaping work to open up views, improved accessibility in and around the gardens and a new play area. The end result is a truly stunning park that is now once again a real asset to the town of Southport.

Southport Pleasureland is a long-running theme park that offers more than 100 rides, including several roller coasters that are sure to get your adrenaline pumping. One of the best things about this theme park is that there are rides suitable for both adults and young kids. So, whether you’re looking for an exhilarating roller coaster ride or a gentle go-kart race, you’ll find it here. Other attractions include trampolines, a funhouse, and a variety of rides to keep you entertained.

Located in the heart of Southport, Marine Lake is a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike. Southport Flower Show is the largest independent flower show in the country. Renowned for its spectacular show gardens and grand floral marquee, it also features the largest amateur’ growers and floral art competitions. There is an abundance of entertainment such as themed arena displays, music, celebrity presentations and so much more. The Food Festival has live cooking demonstrations in the cookery theatre and then head over to the gourmet producers to sample and buy products.

The Southport Air Show is a weekend-long event that takes place every July. The show features a wide variety of aircraft, from small biplanes to large commercial jets. There are also a number of static displays, which give visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the aircraft. In addition to the main show, there are also a number of side events, such as fly-bys, acrobatic displays, and skydiving exhibitions. The Southport Air Show is a great day out for the whole family, and with so much to see and do, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular events on the calendar.
